Focus on waste recycling

At KE Fibertec, the course has for many years been towards more sustainable solutions — both in our production and in the products we supply. In recent years, we have had a particular focus on how we can optimise our waste volumes while ensuring that waste materials are recycled in new solutions and products. This work has taken us a long way, and today we can prove that we have zero waste from production at our weaving mill.
Through strategic cooperation agreements with external manufacturers, today more than 35 tonnes of residual materials from our laser cutters to processing at Kvadrat Really. Here, the residual material is converted into granules, which are subsequently used in the production of acoustic plates in the product line Square Acoustic High End.
In the same way, cones — the plastic tubes on which our yarn is wound — are recycled into new chain items at the company Frontmatec. All empty cones are granulated at our weaving plant and then removed by our long-standing partner Agtrup Plastic, which uses the material for the manufacture of chain blanks. By 2024, we expect that about 50,000 cones will be involved in the production of new products.
When we weave textile materials, there will always be a smaller amount of excess yarn left on the cones. Where this was previously discarded, today it is recycled internally for the manufacture of bead cords, which is used in the installation of our textile-based ventilation ducts.
Overall, in recent years we have sent up against 50 tonnes of residual materials from our production to new products. This is an important step towards our goal of becoming CO₂ neutral in our Danish factories by 2030.
