Optimization is the key to a complete Cradle to Cradle ceiling solution

At KE Fibertec, we continuously work to optimize and further develop our products to meet increasing demands for sustainability in construction. Most recently, we have further developed our FBS ceiling panel — a ceiling diffuser solution for offices, schools and other comfort environments — with the clear goal of creating a fully Cradle to Cradle approved ceiling solution.

Previously, the frame for the FBS ceiling panel was manufactured at an external supplier using welded rails. To gain even greater control over materials, processes and environmental impact, we initiated a development project focusing on circularity and resource utilization.

Recycling of plastic waste in new frame corners

At our weaving mill, up to 4 tonnes of plastic waste is generated annually in the form of empty plastic cones from yarn deliveries. Where these were previously sorted as plastic waste and sent for recycling, today they are directly involved in the production of new frame corners for the FBS ceiling panel.

The plastic waste is converted into granules and sent to a subcontractor, which manufactures new corner profiles. The result is a solution that both reduces waste and eliminates the need for welding. At the same time, the new corner profiles provide increased flexibility, as the frame can be disassembled and assembled according to the customer's needs.

Cradle to Cradle-Approved Grades

The FBS ceiling panel consists of three components: top, bottom and frame. The top and bottom are made of textile material, which is woven at our own weaving mill in Denmark.

• Bundle part can be supplied in the permeable quality GreenWeave, which is Cradle to Cradle-approved.
• Top part now also available in Cradle to Cradle approved textile in the quality MultiWeave.

In addition, we have replaced the previous rubber bead cord at the top with a new solution, manufactured on our own lacing machines. Here we use residual yarns from production, which were previously considered waste.

A unified Cradle to Cradle-approved solution

After a thorough optimization, we can now offer the FBS ceiling panel as a overall Cradle to Cradle-approved ceiling solution. It provides our customers with a strong alternative to traditional ceiling panels in construction with a focus on sustainability and certifications such as DGNB and LEED.
