Broomfield Hospital

Aesthetics and indoor climate on the agenda

As Broomfield Hospital was to have established a new ventilation system in the atrium courtyard linking the main building to a new wing, both function and architecture were in focus. The atrium serves as a central link in the building with great daily activity, and therefore there were high demands on both comfort, air quality and visual expression.

From both the architect and the consulting engineer, there was a clear demand: the textile channels should follow the curved walls of the building and form a natural part of the architectural whole. Thus, the ventilation solution had to appear not as a technical element, but as an integral part of the design.

The solution was a specially adapted KE-Direjet® 1/2 D channel system from KE Fibertec with dimensions 550 mm in height and 1100 mm in depth. The system was designed to precisely follow the curves of the building while ensuring efficient, even and draft-free air distribution throughout the atrium area.

The result is a ventilation solution where aesthetics and indoor climate go hand in hand — with high comfort for users and a visual expression that supports the architecture of the building.
