Monkton Elm

The challenge

Monkton Elm wanted to make better use of its conservatory as an extension of the restaurant. While the area offered valuable additional seating, varying temperatures made it difficult to maintain a consistently comfortable environment for customers throughout the year.

The brief was to provide both heating and cooling so that the conservatory could be used more effectively, while retaining as much table and floor space as possible.

The ventilation solution also needed to integrate with the existing structure rather than detract from the appearance of the conservatory.

The solution

Working with MBH Industrial Services Ltd, KE Fibertec designed a bespoke Textile Based Ventilation system specifically around the layout of the conservatory.

A 500 mm diameter KE-Inject system manufactured from MultiWeave 40 in Bosporus Green was selected, allowing the textile ducting to blend closely with the existing green structural framework.

The main sections use carefully positioned air outlets to distribute conditioned air across the width of the conservatory, helping provide a more even and comfortable indoor environment.

Dedicated sections positioned above the entrances direct air downwards to create an air-curtain effect. This helps reduce draughts and the influence of outside air when the doors are opened, improving comfort in the areas closest to the entrances.

Because the textile ducting is installed at high level, the system also delivers the required heating and cooling without taking up valuable restaurant floor space.

Designed to become part of the building

The colour of the textile ductwork was an important part of the design.

Rather than introducing visually dominant mechanical ductwork into the conservatory, the Bosporus Green fabric was selected to complement the existing steelwork and structure.

The finished installation sits naturally within the space, allowing the ventilation system to perform its function without compromising the character of the restaurant.

The result

The completed system provides heating and cooling to help Monkton Elm make better use of the conservatory throughout the year, effectively turning the area into a more comfortable extension of the restaurant.

Following installation, MBH Industrial Services Ltd reported that the customer was very pleased with both the airflow performance and the way the textile ductwork blends into the existing structure.

The project demonstrates how Textile Based Ventilation can solve an indoor climate challenge while also preserving valuable floor space and integrating with the architecture of the building.
