High Dust holding Capacity (HDC) materials

The ability of materials to carry dust is dependent on the structure of their weave. High Dust Capacity materials (HDC) are made of staple fibre yarns, i.e. yarns that are spun from 38 mm long thin fibres. The final yarn is made by twisting two yarns into one yarn that is used both in warp and weft direction (length- and crossways on fabric).

The result is a fabric that is able to carry a large amount of dust without restricing the air flow through the material. Such restriction would require washing of the textile duct to ensure the distribution of the pre calculated quantity of air at the pre calculated pressure loss.

KE Fibertec produces a variety of products according to the relevant needs and type of installation. All low impulse systems and hybrid high impulse systems are dimensioned using materials with a high DHC, whereas we use materials with a lower DHC for very active systems (more than 30% of air distributed through holes or nozzles). The reason for this is that the dust particles in these systems would not cause the same rise in pressure in the duct as most of the dust just passes through the holes or nozzles.

For the end user, the biggest problem with traditional ducting systems is the maintenance and cleaning which can be very inconvenient and expensive. Tests have proven that insufficiently maintained ventilation systems is the major cause of poor quality indoor air, frequently contributing significantly to sick building syndrome. In the food industry the difficulty in maintaining traditional ducting systems can lead to the provision of the ideal conditions for the rapid growth of micro-organisms which is a hazard to health.

With a KE Fibertec system, maintenance is not a problem since the textile ducts are easily removed and refitted without the use of any special tools. They can be washed and tumble dryed time and time again without the risk of shrinkage. The problem of dirty and unhygienic ducts is now solved once and for all. During operation the KE-Low Impulse System® and KE-Interior System® act as an additional and terminal filter before the air is supplied to the room environment. The degree of this filtration is equivalent to F5 to F6 standards.
