A year of extremes

By Carsten Jespersen, Man. Director, KE Fibertec AS

The past year

In many ways 2016 was a year of extremes. We entered the year with guns blazing and especially the months of May/June were busy, but unfortunately only to be followed by a late summer of low order intake. If this has anything to do with UK's Brexit is uncertain. On the whole we are quite happy with 2016 even though the total growth in turnover will be lower than in 2014 and 2015.

All in all we expect a satisfactory result a little below the record year of 2015. On the other hand our expectations of 2017 are mixed, to some extent because of the development in the USA, the UK and Turkey. In 2017 the Germans will go to the polls, and we do not yet know if that result will be as unpredictable as the US presidential election. These markets are very important to us in view of our sales companies, however, we have decided to continue the implementation of our 2017 growth strategy, however, subject to any adjustments that the market may demand.

Sustainable and energy-efficient solutions

In 2012 when we introduced CradleVent, the world's first Cradle to Cradle certified ventilation duct, it was all about materials and their recyclability. Today, sustainability is also about being able to document the product's energy-efficiency properties and for that we have developed an LCC analysis (Life Cycle Cost) which is an overall economic calculation of different alternatives. An LCC analysis can provide our customers with an estimate of the total costs covering purchase, installation, operation, washing and maintenance over a period of 10-15 years. In nearly every case the most expensive material turns out to be the least expensive solution for the entire period.

FBS ceiling panels for diffuse or directional air distribution

Earlier this year we introduced the new FBS ceiling panels developed by our subsidiary Euro Air. FBS Panels are flexible ceiling panels featuring a low pressure loss and a low sound pressure level. The panel is highly suited for personal ventilation and can be fitted in almost any type of ceiling. In the course of 2017 we will be able to offer delivery within only 48 hours of our most popular panel types.

ISO re-certification

For several years KE Fibertec has been certified according to ISO 9001, a strategic management system for quality assurance, and according to ISO 14001 for environmental management. This year KE Fibertec was the first Danish company to be re-certified according to the revised standards (ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015, respectively) and that has strengthened our strategic foundation and customer focus.

Focus on the indoor air quality

2016 held many interesting projects such as the new laboratory of DMRI/Danish Technological Institute where our new InTex® monitoring system was installed, and the renovation of the skating rink Thialf in Holland, Prioritet Serneke Arena in Sweden and Amazon in the UK.

We are very pleased that the topic of indoor air quality in our schools has come into focus. Now it is our hope that also our politicians will practise what they preach. A healthy teaching environment to support the learning process is vital for our future students.
